went down to san diego this week to see the night marchers on halloween. they were good, as usual. san diego was cooler. it's like... taking the nicest neighborhoods in chicago and combining it with the weather and geography of los angeles and the traffic of neither. i could definitely live there. and the people are california laid back and chicago not full of themselves. i've only been there 3 times and stayed in 3 different neighborhoods and i loved all of em. stayed right by little italy this time and it was probably my favorite. kind of nothing except pizza places, art galleries, bars, and coffee shops. yes please. even the 7-11's in san diego are gorgeous. anyway, went to this old italian deli/restaurant called filippi's and it was glorious. went back the next morning cause they sold 6-in-1 tomatoes (the tomatoes i use on stuffed pizza) for only $1.89 a can. i stocked up. anyway, night marchers were good, pizza was good, san diego is good, cheapo motel 6 was surprisingly not terrible.

note to self: everyone here has lots of friends. don't take it personally when they do things you want to do but don't invite you.
having a real hard time with my whole... always feeling left out/paranoid nobody likes me thing lately.
man, i haven't talked on here in forever. what else happened... jasten's in PDX, so no band stuff for a while... which is ok, but i'd kinda hoped something bandy would be going on on my birthday...when other people want to be left alone to party, i would like nothing more than play musics on my birthday. oh well.
Actually... i'm in a pretty blah mood today! so probably not a good time to talk at people. I've been trying not to be more generally positive lately. And also I get off work in 7 minutes, so i should probably wrap up work instead of this. leavin on time since i took the bus/train all week. got lots of reading done. that's good.

sign that i'm in pretty good shape now: i go for walks around the hilly neighborhood by work during lunch. today some guy drove by me, stopped and pulled over, and then when i walked past his car started driving next to me and asked where i was going and if he could give me a ride. ewwww. i still should've given him a nancy fullforce sticker probly.

| weekend in dc-ish. |
[11 May 2009|09:20am] |
holy crap, a new post. sorry it's been so long, i'm always on the twigga, but too much stuff in dc for 140 characters. i was still getting better most of the weekend. jasten gave me swine flu last week. we played a show at cat club, he didn't have a beer on stage and asked for a swig of mine before singing - i totally asked him if he had swine flu. he said no, and next day he's got the flu. what a jerk. at the d.c. airport they have these little shuttles that drive all over the airport - they look like waiting rooms with smokestacks on top and don't feel like they should be a vehicle at all. i'm sure they were crazy futuristic in the 50s, but now they just feel dumb. i would like one to drive around in. after getting to dc went to a starbucks to wake up - the rehearsal dinner place was somewhere right across the street, so time was to be wasted first in this minimall. the starbucks was about the nicest i've ever seen. it was huge and had a fireplace and tons of seating and good music. if they were like that here, i might actually go to them. also went to a cool quaint little coffee shop in frederick md yesterday that was nicer and had better snacks. good coffee places out there. they had chicago style stuffed pizza at the rehearsal dinner, to bring some of chicago (for the bride) to dc (for the groom). it was a valiant effort. problem was, as far as i know, the groom only had stuffed pizza once, at christmas with me suzi and ross in greektown. so he was trying to coach chefs who'd also never had it. they used way too much garlic, not enough oregano, and the crust was a little crispy, but it was a real good attempt from dc people. when my dad had heart surgery, one day that i was home taking care of him he suddenly got up from his drug induced stupor and sat on the computer for like a half hour. i was worried at what the hell he was doing and checked on him, and he was looking up books on the battle of monocacy. he's a big civil war nerd. well, monocacy battlefield was like 3 minutes from the hotel, so i went there to walk around saturday. it was real pretty, and cool to think that these old trees saw thousands of us killing each other there 150 years ago. also, and it's probably all the vonnegut i've been reading, i thought it was pretty sad and stupid that we honor these soldiers by not using all this great land for anything. there's quotes from all the soldiers' diaries/letters about what great farm land it was. so farm that shit. i don't know... big open unused field doesn't seem very honorary. i think they would want to help corn grow. also, in the same vein, didn't go to the typical dc stuff. kind of wasn't interested beforehand, but once i was in frederic and saw all these super old quaint houses... that seems way more interesting to me than a giant gold obelisk we stuck in the air that has no relation to anything, except that we named it washington. yaknow? the band at the wedding were the dude's who wrote that song "who got the hooch." for real. there were only like 5 little girls dancing most of the night, they were playing all typical wedding covers, and then when they started who got the hooch, we grabbed everyone we knew and crowded the dancefloor. we were the biggest jerks. it was amazing.

suzi and i went to a hole in the wall bar in our new neighborhood last night for the first time. it is awesome. the bartender/owner is this older woman. she works there by herself. when we got our first drink, she poured out a bowl of pretzels and said here, have some pretzels! ok, thanks. then she asked if we wanted any chips, but we didn't. we went and sat down, and about 15 minutes later, she yelled to the whole bar "anybody want a hot dog?"... most people looked a little uncomfortable and said no. "i have hot dogs here. i could make some if anyone wants one!" but nobody did. then we each had another beer, and as soon as we sat down, she microwaved 3 bags of popcorn and split it up into bowls and gave some to every group at the bar. "here kids, have some popcorn!" she called us kids. after we ate our popcorn, we left. it was pretty amazing. i imagine it's like what going over my mom's house for drinks would be like. "anybody want a hot dog?" is a great thing to yell out in a bar. goin shopping for desks today, and i'm hanging up the tv too. if both are successful, then the only things left to be done in the new place will be finding a cabinet to put robots in, and running speaker cable to the rears (waiting for fun new cable hider for that, it comes wednesday).

tomorrow, hopefully, we'll have internet at home again. real internet, not slow, stolen from the building behind us internet. and also cable. i'm sick of tv and miss being able to watch movies. i'm pleasantly surprised with how often car chases are on tv though. much more exciting than chicago news breaks for sure. almost all moved into new place. still need a new desk, and the cable cover (so i can run speaker cable neatly to surrounds) is coming in a few days. i think that'll be it? practice probably for both band things this week, shows all 3 of the next 3 weeks. neato. i'm still tired and haven't caught up on sleep though. i finally ordered the falcon 10" and cd. still haven't seen em at any stores. i prefer finding records in stores over ordering them. or at least winning an auction. feels like i took part in making the thing mine then instead of just saying yes, 1 please. i don't really have anything else to say right now... pretty tired. night. -tim.

heard last night that i have good credit, and so the application for a new apartment was accepted. new place is in a much better neighborhood, close to griffith park, the hollywood/western train stop, and entrances to the 101. it's all newly redone inside too and is really pretty and modern though homey. much nicer than my current place. i'm gonna really miss being so close to some things - particularly amoeba records, groundworks (where my favorite coffee-maker puts little clover and heart shaped patterns in the foam of my mocha), ice pan, arclight, and the knitting factory, but they'll all be only a train stop or two away. -tim.

i have 6 pounds of cheese from costco. god bless costco. it is why the terrorists hate us. i may make a ginormous pizza with it. band practice tonight, show tomorrow. it probably won't be good, since it's our first show in well over a month, so i'm not tellin anyone about it. the key club or safari sam's shows in feb are the ones i'm gonna tell people about. i bought mirror's edge today with a gift card from corbin. was on sale. so was left 4 dead, but they were out of it on 360, AND i know that like all valve games, it'll be like $20 in another couple months. i have enough to do til then. -tim.

| back and stuff! |
[03 Jan 2009|10:28pm] |
big rundown of trip home shiz! 24th- 4am cab ride to lax, flight to vegas, and then huge layover cause of weather in chicago. but vegas airport is a good place to be delayed - lots of food places, beeping games, and free internets. thought we'd get stuck in vegas, but a good weather window got us to chicago. had family christmas gathering #1 on christmas eve night. 25th- big family christmas gathering at my parents' house. helped move stuff. got a whole bunch of presents from them. one of them was a soldering iron. i'm finally gonna put new pickups in my first guitar. 26th- first day of free workouts. used guest passes and hotel fitness rooms pretty much the whole rest of the break. i'm kind of addicted to hotel fitness rooms since they're always empty and i'm totally antisocial about fitness. checked into hotel. the muslim american society convention was going on and it sometimes made me feel like we were in another country - little customs like women not getting in the elevator when i was the only guy in there and stuff. then met up with ross and had giordano's. 27th- saw slumdog millionaire. tis good. ryan and corbin picked me up. made marble madness (or whatever the kids call it these days) tower. ate about half of a lou malnati's pizza (stuffed pizza #2). ryan made cookies. they were real good. then ryan took forever to beat zelda. he's not very good. but he drove me home which was very nice. made best friends with his dog. his kids are like real people now. bizarre. 28th- starting to forget what happened what day now. um....oh yeah, watched bears suck at my parents' house. then went to deals gone bad show at the metro. dan pothast was excellent as well. pedro gave me huge hugs outside the metro, and some drinking was done at the ginger man. NONE OF MY FRIENDS CAME TO THE SHOW OR TO THE DRINKING. so i only had like 2 beers. in face i think i only had two beers at any event of the whole vacation. zero drunken timmys. 29th- family christmas #3 - went up to see joanie and exchanged gifts with her. her basement is huge. like as big as the apartment i'm hoping to get. then went to the zoo. fed hippos, bongo, giraffes...um...i thought more? maybe not. saw winter quarters (underground overflow/winter homes for animals) which were a little creepy. then ate a pint of kopp's custard. must mail order some kopp's. 30th- family christmas gathering #4 - first had giordano's (stuffed pizza #3) with ross and jovia and some dude they said was her brother. almost ate a whole small stuffed myself, one piece shy. i am impressive. then had dinner and gift exchange with suzi's family. got much needed pizza sauce. 31st- 5:30 amtrak into downtown chicago, freezing walk over to union station, 7am train to st louis. mel got married, then reception started at like 7. wasn't as crazy as you'd think a new year's eve reception would be (again, i had 2 beers), but it was very classy. i loved the place it was in, would be like the coolest loft in downtown st louis. also, the wedding cake was awesome - i normally don't even bother looking at it cause wedding cake is not the kind of thing people actually like eating, but they had some plain super dark devil's food cake. i had 2 pieces. 1st- CITY MUSEUM ST. LOUIS. this was the coolest place. it's...um...kind of a giant sculpture playground made out of old parts of industrial equipment and buildings from the city? and you can climb on pretty much anything. i don't think there's any rules. there's a 7 story slide, a 3 story slide, a bunch more slides outside, 2 ball pits, jungle gyms, caves, a circus, upstairs there's an espresso bar and a very cheap well stocked thrift store...it's pretty much just amazing. then after that we took the train to the airport and flew back to la. 2nd- that was yesterday. i was back here. and did nothing. i'm kind of sick right now, bad sinus thing, don't know who i got it from cause just about everyone in the midwest i saw was sick. hope it gets better fast cause i'm gonna be busy with work and shows for a while. POSSIBLY getting new apartment soon. will keep updated. to everyone who i saw on the trip home - it was awesome seeing you, thanks for enabling visit times. there were a lot of people i didn't see, which kinda sucks, but it's not the end of the world. i didn't want to do a giant planned stressful get together - which i did 2 of last year, and both cost me a lot of money and both were not that fun, outside of getting to see people. and then i didn't talk to any one person as much as i would have liked either, yaknow? so as long as we're still talking and cool and stuff, i'll see you another time, don't be upset. -tim.

i just found out today that parry gripp (from nerf herder) has been writing at least a song a week all year. they are magnificent. it might be my favorite "album" of the year. i'm getting tired of shipping times and issues. nothing is coming in at promised times - even stuff from my own work. stuff that we were told we wouldn't get til after christmas came in like 2 weeks ago, and christmas orders still aren't in. they haven't even cashed my check for them. very frustrating. there's 2 other places - both with presents for suzi - that have taken my money, gave no shipping notice, and haven't replied to emails. these are legitimate oft used companies too, not ebay. another sound guy, after hanging on me all day, coming in my office numerous times for no reason and sitting next to me in two meetings told me he felt terrible and has been avoiding people cause he has the flu and is vomiting a lot. then he went home. thanks, buddy! i played a show with brandon from kill radio on friday. it was super fun. i will tell more people about it next time we play, promise, i think we do pretty good stuff together. space is done clearing on my hard drive, so i can start recording again. yay. back to work.

[01 Dec 2008|12:32pm] |
so tired. thanksgiving break felt like it was about 2 weeks long cause of the bizarre sleeping schedules involved in all the travel. had to get up at 4am for flights 3 times. started getting sick, not from a virus but just cause i had no sleep or food. twice there was no food for me to eat anywhere so i just didn't, and i came back from thanksgiving break like 4 pounds lighter than i left. that's backwards. finally tried baked tomato with ross and jovi - it was good, but nowhere near giordano's good. in fact, i like my homemade pizzas better. maybe someday when i retire i'll start a pizza place. oo, a pizza place/small venue. that'd be rad. i'm sure baked tomato was better before though, i only got to try the new ownership bastardized version. before break, went to karina/gael's for karina's birthday. was already tired then. this lack of sleep thing needs to be fixed. it will be, but maybe not til christmas break. well, no, probably not then either. maybe after new year's. anyway, made brownies, they were eaten. didn't get to see her cats, i miss them. joey is awesome, i'm glad he's their roommate. every time i see karina it makes me miss my disney pass. i think we may go in january for suzi's birthday. saw transporter 3 with peoples on friday. it was good. i am not the gay. richie told me about death race, and i need to see this movie but refuse to see it all alone. maybe over christmas someone will watch it with me. last night i saw a commercial for the blackhawks outdoor game at wrigley field. it is the coolest thing and i'm so sad i'm not gonna be there. maybe they'll do it every year or something. the bears should play a throwback game at wrigley. how cool would that be?! way behind on games - seriously debating bringing a 360 or wii with me over christmas break. maybe i'll just hang out at ross and jovi's for like an hour or two a day to catch up on stuff. i've been finding lots of good old music lately - highly recommend the jimbo mathus solo cd's, and the rancid/silencers life won't wait demos. i'm supposed to be playing with brandon jordan from kill radio next friday in venice. i've really wanted to play with him since the first time i saw him, it'll either be super great or totally sad. we'll see. -tim.

ok, so andrew wk has a japan cover cd coming out the end of this month, plus a greatest hits album with 1 new song.
the best part is that there's bad japanese translations of the song titles into japanese and back to english. here's the badly double translated page with the tracklist at the bottom (and you can hear a clip of the new song)-

my favorite is "invincible party bastard!" though "die in an explosion fine!" is really good too.

new plan. now instead of driving with suzi's family to omaha after thanksgiving, i think we're flying saturday morning. which makes friday a little freer. it sucks that we can't drive with them, because i really like road trips and reading time and ds time and seeing tiny roadside towns and such. but we have a limited amount of time on vacations home, and they ARE our vacations, i use up money and days off work every time i come home for a holiday, we can't spend more than half the time in or on the way to omaha. also, i'm staying with her family like 3 nights at christmas (the nights when i don't have a hotel) and while suzi's family is supercool and uber nice to me, it's not fair to my family and friends to spend more time with suzi's family at the two biggest holidays of the year. but i guess that really just changes my travel plans and nothing else- still planning on maybe going out wednesday night, and then transporter 3 on friday afternoon-ish, and then somethin else probably laid back friday evening. cause the flight would leave at like 7 am saturday.

| last 2 weekends... |
[03 Nov 2008|04:13pm] |
work's busy, finishin up that next geetar hero thing, and so interesting stuff is pretty much on the weekends i think. two weekends ago, my sister visited. she is a good visitor - she does stuff suzi and i want to do anyway, and she isn't allergic to cats. why are all the rest of you people allergic to cats?! saturday morning we went to the griddle in west hollywood for pancakes. everyone else who has visited needs to come back to have pancakes here. i was half full of pancakes for the next 2 days. the other super cool thing was the spider pavilion at LA's natural history museum - it's like those butterfly pavilion things most nature museums have, where you walk amongst all these butterflies flying around and landing on you and stuff, except it was spiders. this past weekend...well, not much happened except halloween. i went as angus young. this isn't the best pic (clickie), but it's the only one i have cause no one i went out with that night was taking pics. i went to the rainbow, and a lot of people there knew what i was. at one point, i was comin out of the bathroom and ran into a guy dressed as slash, and we just laughed at each other. it was a REALLY uneventful night though, and i had been pretty excited about going out for craziness so... kinda disappointing all in all. sunday suzi and i started watching the V miniseries, and it actually holds up better than i thought it would. with all the remakes coming out, how come no one's made a new V yet?

so i'm totally on a jury. which kinda sucks, but it's kinda interesting too. it's not at a good time, cause the game i'm workin on is going into alpha next week, and cause joanie's coming this weekend, so i can't make up work time lost then or anything, but yaknow. civic duty and all that. anyway, that means that: i'm not on a computer like normal til the trial's done. and to a few of you who i have stuff to mail to, that can't happen yet cause i'm in a courthouse all day. the nice part is that it's REAL easy to get to on the train, and the area of downtown it's in is pretty nice and oddly reminds me of some parts of downtown chicago, though without a river, so it's pretty fun to walk around. however, all the lawyer women have gigantic fake boobs, which is pretty LA.

[17 Oct 2008|02:45pm] |
this isn't about any one person, it's just something that pisses me off that i've run into somewhat regularly throughout my audio jobs. you can not hear .01 of a decibel. you can't. i don't want to see any data ever again where someone has shifted something by 1.51 db. you're just being an asshole. 1.5 would've done the job just great. i'll adjust things by a half db. even by a quarter, but usually then it's cause some other jerk thought that a half was too much and i'm compromising. if you're listening for .01 of a db either you're the best mixing engineer ever and you definitely shouldn't be working somewhere with me, or else you're faking it, and you're a jerk.

| VACATION TWO: |
[14 Oct 2008|01:27pm] |
friday: fly to chicago. ate giordano's at suzi's parents' house. i got a little upset that they were trying to do things "special" for me and my eating habits, i know i have a terribly limited diet, but i really don't like people making a big deal about it or point it out... i hope i didn't offend anyone. after dinner a bunch of people met up at estelle's - cedric gets the award for coming the furthest for no reason but to see me. and possibly to get out of his house where a 3 week old baby was residing. after drinks, stopped at ross and jovia's to say hi to her, then they drove us back out to the PR. slept there as comfortably as possible on a twin bed. i'm glad we drank, or it would've been tough getting to sleep. saturday: car rental went super smooth, except that the seatbelt sensor was broke so it kept beeping thinking i wasn't buckled in. suzi had to tie me into the seat every time we got in the car instead of using the seatbelt latch. picked up my grandma and took her to breakfast for her 80th birthday - we went to Red Apple, which was very good, but they make all their healthy, hearty breakfast meals so good by adding butter. Delish, but probably not the best for us. on the way to indie, saw the best highway exit ever - it was for two towns named - seriously - Whitestown and Brownsburg. i realized that indie might be in the east time zone. shit. so we lost an hour of travel and i had to change and wash up at the church. i shaved in a stinky rest stop too, so i could get to the church looking halfway decent. marcus's service was looong and ritualistic but very light hearted, and his reception was awesome - great music, and his family is ridiculously cool. we wasted time afterward at a meijer where there was mini bananas - genetically engineered midget bananas. really. - and these bubble car shaped shopping carts that kids ride inside that had TVs in them for the kids to watch. i wish i could fit in one so bad. sunday: drove to nashville. again forgot about a time change (do not do road trips along time zone lines) and got there too early so our room wasn't ready and we had to take a weird handicapped room where the whole bathroom is a shower. though yaknow, i could poop and take a shower at the same time if i wanted to. toby and lauren's wedding was on a plantation, which was a pretty cool place with lots of old buildings. saw tons of people i hadn't seen in way too long. toby's cousin found out i work on guitar hero and totally freaked out, which was cute and made me feel good. after talking excitedly about it for like 15 minutes, he finally asked "do you get money to work on it?!" yes, i do. "MOM!!! HE SAID HE GETS MONEY TO WORK ON GUITAR HERO!!!" monday: no time zone issues. had IHOP that was probably the least greasy best tasting ihop i remember ever having, and then went to the nashville zoo. the group "clique girlz" was on our flight back to LA, and their manager or some shit was a terribly annoying name dropper who wouldn't shut up all flight, but otherwise everything yesterday was great. now i'm back at work, and i have to pee.

i've been stupid busy at work since returning. i'm sorry i haven't responded to anything. i will. i'm ok after the whole cubs thing. so many people sent me their condolences, as though i'd lost a family member. thanks erybody.
coming back to chicago for one night only this friday - probably eating at giordano's, then meeting at some central location and telling a bunch of jerks where we'll be. then taking grandma for breakfast, driving to indiana, seeing marcus, driving to nashville, seeing toby, and then flying back here on monday.
it's still super hot outside and they keep saying it's gonna be cool, or at least mild. california meteorologists are dumber than a can of monkey poo.

| VACATION. |
[30 Sep 2008|01:16pm] |
last week was a great break. i'm already upset and stressed about stupid little things at work again, but i didn't think about work at all last week. i went hiking saturday, monday, tuesday, and wednesday. recorded horn parts for a NFF song, and wednesday we shot a video for it. which was weird and i felt like a big dork, but it went better than a photoshoot cause at least i get to act like i'm playing instead of just staring at a camera. thursday i left for chicago - within a half hour of landing, i was eating giordano's. oh giordano's how i love you. stayed at my parents' place that night, and their cat is insane. she screams and bites you one minute, then crawls on your lap and goes to sleep. friday got dropped off at ross's and i hung out with him and jovia before the brewers/cubs game - stopped at a gamestop and deciding to get all the burger king games was one of the highlights of the weekend. sneak king is so damn good. i'm going to beat it. jovia's really cool too. i think i'd only met her like once before and she was really quiet/shy, which i probably translated as standoffish (since i can never understand people being shy towards me), but she's a super fun girl and i was glad to hang out with her this weekend too. and her bangs are cool. drank 40s in the parking lot - i drank mine the fastest. OH. i got a hot pretzel at the brewers game. but they don't just salt them, they DIP THEM IN A VAT OF BUTTER FIRST. next year in milwaukee they'll probably do that with all their food - i'd like a brat, with onions - and they dip the brat into butter to get the onions to stick. saturday was fun time with marcus - my leg still hurts from whirlyball. we started drinking at 1:00, stopped about 5:30, i went to my hotel, drank as much water as i could, and worked out vigorously for about a half hour, then showered, then they picked me up and we resumed drinking. met people at delilah's. dee didn't show up cause she's a homo. that's right, i said it. this is too long. must hurry through sunday. sunday saw the cubs lose to the brewers and it was the best loss ever - the cubs were making awesome stupid moves (like pinch hitting zambrano in the 3rd inning) and the brewers won, clinching the wildcard - which means i get to see the cubs in the playoffs in LA on saturday. i'm really happy i got tickets to the sunday brewers game instead of saturday, turned out perfect. after the game, we went to joanie's house - it's really cute, i'm stupid jealous of her having a house and me not having a house, and i liked the various odd stuff in it (garbage can nook, laundry chute, bent ceiling in bedroom) and her anti-petting zoo impressed as always. i kinda want a hog nosed snake and a brazilian black spider. i probably pissed her off by saying i would be there in a couple minutes when i was already out front, but i thought it was pretty funny. last nancy show of the year tonight, and then everything will be pretty boring...until 2 weeks from now when i go back to chicago for everybody getting married. p00t!
